What it does

Your assistant calls Ember Seasons whenever you ask about deer or turkey season dates. It has three tools, all read-only:

get_hunting_seasons
Season dates for a state, optionally for deer or turkey and for archery, muzzleloader or firearm. You get start and end dates, zones, bag limits, antler restrictions and the state agency source.
is_season_open
Whether deer or turkey season is open in a state on a given day, today by default. The answer is Open, Not open with the next opener, or Unknown.
list_covered_states
The states Ember has season dates for, with each state’s next opener.

Every answer links to the state agency’s own source, reminds you to verify before you hunt, and links to that state’s page on Ember. Clients that can’t show the card get the same answer as text.

Connect it

Directory listings for ChatGPT and Claude are coming. Until then, add it yourself as a custom connector with the server URL https://emberhq.app/mcp. There is no API key or login to enter.

In Claude

  1. 1Open Settings → Connectors.
  2. 2Choose Add custom connector.
  3. 3Name it Ember Seasons, paste the server URL and add it. Leave authentication empty.
  4. 4Turn the connector on in a chat, then ask a season question.

In ChatGPT

  1. 1Turn on Developer mode in settings.
  2. 2Go to Plugins → +, then Create custom MCP server, then Create MCP App.
  3. 3Name it Ember Seasons, paste the server URL and choose no authentication.
  4. 4Start a new chat, add Ember Seasons from the tools menu and ask a season question.

Plans: whether you can add a custom connector depends on your plan and your workspace’s settings. On a work or team account, an admin may need to allow it.

Sign-in and permissions

  • No authentication. You don’t need an Ember account, and the connector never asks for one.
  • Every tool is read-only. It looks up public season dates and changes nothing.
  • It never asks for your name, email or location.

Known limits

  • Deer and turkey only. Whitetail, mule deer and turkey. Ask about elk, bear or small game and it will say it can’t help and point you to your state agency.
  • The 2026-2027 season year. Dates outside it come back as Unknown.
  • 47 states. Ember doesn’t have dates for every state yet. Ask it to list the states it covers.
  • Unknown never means closed. If Ember has no data, it says Unknown. It will not guess that a season is closed.
  • Dates can change. Dates come from state agency publications and can change. Verify with your state wildlife agency’s regulations before you hunt. It doesn’t answer regulation questions such as bait, licenses or legal hours.

Privacy

The connector receives only what your assistant sends to a tool, such as the state and species, and records which tool was called. It sets no cookies and needs no account. Read the full policy section.
